Patterned GlassTextured or Patterned glass is made by running molten glass over a patterned roller which reproduces the pattern on the glass. In addition to diffusing light and obstructing visibility from the outside, the glass also softens the interior lighting.
Textured glass is used to diffuse, not obscure, an object when viewing. The glass is also used as a popular decorative product.
All textured glass can be toughened to meet safety requirements and most can be laminated to give additional security, however due to the method of laminating textured glass there are a few patterns which cannot be laminated.
Features: Textured glass is a decorative and translucent glass, the obscuration of the glass would depend on the pattern chosen. The patterns are able to soften the light in a space.
Applications: Windows, doors, showers, shelves, leaded lights. Interior partition and screens. Furniture doors
All Textured panels are available in 4mm thickness, some are available in 4 and 6mm thicknesses.
The Pilkington designs below have a rating of 1 - 5, 1 being the easiest to see through and 5 being the most obscured.
The following Foreign Textured glass designs are also available:
Acid Etched DesignThe etched glass illustrated below have either been faithfully copied from Victorian originals or are based on them. they are produced using materials and techniques of the period.
The etched glasses are produced using a process originally patented by John Davenport in 1806, where ground glass is fired onto the surface of the glass at a high temperature to form an integral part of it and create a frosted appearance.
The process produces a well defined pattern with a slightly raised surface that is light fast and highly scratch resistant. These patterned glasses diffuse the light whilst providing a visual barrier. The Double Fleur design with it's two tone etch is suitable for applications requiring a total visual block.
The glass is produced in 4mm and 6mm thicknesses to a standard stock size of 1120 x 2140mm and is then cut to the required size, 7mm Laminated is also available to comply with current safety regulations, however Toughening is not advised as this will distort the pattern on the glass.
Sandblasted GlassSandblasting is another way of producing a decorative glass, any type of glass can be sandblasted, we carry in stock 4mm and 6mm Sandblasted Float which has a plain frosted surface which allows light through but totally blanks out any vision.
Alternatively, the glass of your choice could be Sandblasted to almost any design and can be as decorative as you want it to be. Each design is made to order, we would therefore require a drawing or sketch to be able to produce the finished artwork before the glass can be manufactured.
To make your design even more distinctive, colours can be added within the design.
Leaded Lights Genuine leaded lights are made using lead 'H' cames of different sizes around individually cut clear, obscured or coloured glass panels, they are then sealed with leaded light cement to produce a weather tight glazing panel.
Standard leaded lights are made in Rectangles (called squares), Diamonds, Gothic and Queen Anne designs.
Decorative leaded lights incorporating coloured glass can be made to almost any design for the grand entrance, landing window, screen or church.
A cheaper alternative to using genuine leaded lights would be to use Imitation leaded lights, these are made by using one pane of glass and applying self adhesive lead strip to both sides, coloured film can be applied to give that stained glass look. Imitation leaded lights can be used in double glazing units where genuine leaded lights can not. |
