Glass Processing When the glass edges are exposed, there are several different types of edgework available to make them safe, Arrissing removes the sharp edge of the glass without touching the edge surface, Smoothing grinds the edge of the glass to a matt finish and Polishing buffs the edge of the glass to give a shiny finish.
Modern machinery can now offer more detailed edgework like the examples in the picture on the left.

Glass bevelling was originally carried out by hand by experienced craftsmen but with new technology and modern CNC machinery the glass edge can be bevelled to larger sizes and in a variety of different profiles, also complicated shapes can now be produced.
The surface of the glass (usually mirrors) can be further decorated by Brilliant Cutting, this is a process where the glass is lowered onto a 'V' shaped grinding wheel to leave a line. There are many standard geometric designs available, plus a large range of themed designs like the Vase of Ferns below.
